BROOKFIELD – What a difference a few days can make.
Before Tuesday’s game Riverside Brookfield needed some help to win the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs were tied with Glenbard South at the top of the MSC, but the Raiders hold the tiebreaker for winning two out of three in the head-to-head series.
Then came the surprising results out of Lansing. Illiana Christian beat the Raiders twice to shake things up. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs finished off a sweep of Fenton on Thursday with a 7-0 win and lead the MSC by two games with three to go.
“We shouldn’t have dropped those games in the first place, but hearing Illiana beating them was good news,” said RB senior Thomas Leary. “Coach always tells us about how he wants us to be remembered for the future and get a plaque up in the school so 10 years from now we will be able to go see it. That’s really good motivation for us.”
Leary earned the win on Thursday with five shutout innings and was 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.
Will Kincanon and Alex Nenadovic each homered for the Bulldogs (25-3, 13-2 MSC), which won 9-3 and 13-0 earlier in the first two games of the series.
“I feel like we’re rolling right now a little bit,” said RB coach Dallas Till. “Hopefully we can keep it going. We’re playing some top notch quality competition just trying to get ready for the state tournament.”
After nonconference games against Hinsdale South, Argo and Stagg, RB finishes MSC play with Elmwood Park. The Bulldogs will play Tuesday and Wednesday games on the road before the home finale on Thursday.
“It’s not over,” said RB coach Dallas Till. “We still got a tough series against Elmwood, whose got a guy who’s signed with Purdue as a pitcher (sophomore Joe Uvelli), and is a team that’s beaten Glenbard South already. We’re not overlooking that series at all.”
