York High School student wins National Merit scholarship
ELMHURST – York High School student Ushasi Naha recently won a $2,500 National Merit scholarship.
Naha was one of 2,500 winners chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists. A committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors chose winners based on academic records, including the difficulty of subjects and grades earned; scores from two standardized tests; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by each finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
This was the second of four announcements of winners. By the completion of this year's competition in mid July, about 8,000 students will have won more than $35 million in National Merit scholarships.
