WHEATON – After losing several close games this year it was refreshing for Glenbard East to be on the winning side of a one-run game.

The Rams, which have six one-run losses this season, got a strong start from Mike Hansen and just enough offense in a 3-2 victory at Wheaton Warrenville South on Wednesday.

Hansen gave up two runs in 5.2 innings and also had an RBI and scored a run as East’s leadoff hitter.

“It was nice to be on the positive side of a one-run game,” said Rams’ coach Joel Pelland. “We’ve been playing much better in the last two series. We took two of three from West Chicago. We took two of three from Naperville North and we came out here and we pitched well, we played defense and we had timely hitting. When you do that you give yourself a chance to win every time.”

The series wins over West Chicago and Naperville North combined with Wednesday’s win means East has won five of its last seven games in the DuPage Valley Conference. The Rams (10-16, 6-10 DVC) seem to be playing their best ball of the season.

“It’s what I knew this team was capable of and what we are capable of moving forward,” Pelland said. “I’m excited for what the future holds for this group. We still got some guys that are struggling, but if we can all get on the same page we’re going to be just as dangerous as any team out there.”

D.J. Spears drove in Hansen in the third with a two-out single and Hansen drove in Yoanny Gonzalez with an RBI groundout in the fourth. The Rams scored once more in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead that they held onto after Danny Ryan had three strikeouts in a four-out save.

Conner Ostrander accounted for both of the Tigers’ runs with a 2-for-2 day with an RBI and a run scored. South dropped to 15-10 overall and 10-6 in the DVC.
