New stars emerge for Lemont

Rising stars emerge for area high school baseball, softball teams

Lemont High School players are debuting in the spotlight this spring for area baseball and softball teams – from seniors stepping into leadership roles to underclassmen earning starting varsity jobs.

Cody Caballero

School: Lemont baseball

Class: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: This senior has been a true revelation for the Indians this spring. Relying on pinpoint control, Caballero owned a 5-1 record entering this week with a 1.09 ERA in 32 innings of work. He had allowed only 22 hits and four walks while striking out 27.

Rachel Hall

School: Lemont softball

Class: Junior

Position: Center fielder

Impact: After playing for the Indians as a freshman, Hall moved away last year before returning to Lemont. The junior has stepped right back in and become a major contributor, hitting .438 through the fist 18 games with four doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs and nine runs scored. Most impressively, she did not strikeout through her first 48 at-bats.

Jake Terrazas

School: Lemont baseball

Class: Junior

Position: Pitcher/third base/first base

Impact: This junior has made his presence felt, at the plate and on the mound. Hitting .462 through 17 games, Terrazas also has tallied six doubles, one home run, 17 RBIs and a team-high 21 runs. As a pitcher, he was 2-2 in 15-1/3 innings of work.

Marc Tokarski

School: Lemont baseball

Class: Senior

Position: Shortstop

Impact: In a strong lineup from top to bottom, this senior is having a solid season at the plate for the Indians. Entering this week, Tokarski was hitting .333 with seven RBIs and 19 runs scored, the latter of which was second on the team. He also was leading the squad with 14 walks for an on-base percentage of .485.

Maddy Vermejan

School: Lemont softball

Class: Freshman

Position: Second base

Impact: A call-up to the varsity basketball team midway through the winter, this freshman has been with the Indians’ varsity softball squad from the get-go this spring. Occupying the leadoff spot in the batting order, Vermejan hit .433 through her first 18 games with eight doubles, three triples, two home runs, 14 RBIs and a team-high 32 runs scored.

Mike Wisz

School: Lemont baseball

Class: Junior

Position: Second base

Impact: Coming off an outstanding winter on the basketball court, Wisz hasn’t skipped a beat in his transition to the diamond as the Indians’ starting second baseman. Hitting .393 through his first 17 games, the junior also has totaled four doubles to go along with a team-high five triples and 24 RBIs.
