WESTERN SPRINGS – Western Springs police are coordinating the seventh annual Police on Board for Raily Safety campaign.

On May 14, students from Lyons Township High School will join Western Springs and Burlington Northern-Sante Fe police officers in distributing train safety information at the Western Springs station. La Grange police officers will hand out educational materials at the Stone Avenue and Burlington Avenue stations.

On May 21, officers will patrol all three stations and nearby crossings to ensure that pedestrians and vehicles are being safe near the tracks.

In Illinois, about 50-60 people are killed and another 70-100 injured each year at rail grade crossings or while trespassing on railroad property, according to the Illinois Commerce Commission.
