Fountaindale Library opens computer lab to host Studio 300 programming

BOLINGBROOK – Fountaindale Public Library is converting its business center into a small computer lab.

Scheduled to open the week of May 5, Fountaindale staff will use Studio 300 computers and incorporate programming while the digital media center is refurbished. The new, small computer lab will offer Studion 300 courses as well as general computer classes, test proctoring and one-on-one training.

The formerly known business center – located on the north side of the library's second floor, next to the quiet reading room– closed April 29.

Although it had a fax machine, scanner and computers with business-specific softare, it was primarily used as an overflow from the main computer lab, according to Fountaindale Communications Manager Chrissy Little.

"We have a high demand for variety of computer programs," Little said, adding that Fountaindale patrons will find services formerly offered in the business center throughout the library.

Unlike the business center, the small computer lab will not be a open for continual public use. Rather, registration will be required to attend programming, training sessions and the re-located Studio 300 classes.

In the wake of their flooded basement, the conversion allows Fountaindale to maintain Studio 300 programming. The computer lab will commence additional classes after Studio 300 re-opens, according to Little.

Studio 300 was under about an inch of water following the April 18 storm, incurring extensive damage to the carpet, dry wall, computer tables and possibly the recording studios. Library staff has given no timetable as to when Studio 300 will re-open.
