Emerson third-graders make a big difference with small business
ELMHURST – Every year, Michelle Quinn's third-graders at Emerson Elementary School learn about economics by creating a business and donating the profits. This year, her 26 students donated $646.50 to the United Community Concerns Association of Elmhurst District 205.
"This was a record," said Quinn, who added that most years, a group of classes work together, but this year her students worked on their own.
Over the course of about four weeks, Quinn's students created a full-fledged business – determining costs, ordering materials, assembling their product, writing marketing jingles, taking orders and delivering merchandise.
