BERWYN – The Township of Berwyn Public Health District will hold its annual Women Alive Health Fair for Berwyn residents from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the District's offices, 6600 W 26th St.

The health fair is being held in observance of National Women’s Health Week.

Free screenings will include height, weight, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, hemoglobin and basic bone density. Medical personnel will be available to discuss results of screenings and answer questions.

Local businesses have offered to provide residents with services, such as manicures and massages, free of charge during the fair. A variety of health information which concentrates on women’s health issues will be provided.

Berwyn Board of Health President Elizabeth Pechous said this year 's event is starting early in the day to better accommodate participants. A period of 12 hours of fasting is required to collect an accurate cholesterol reading. Pechous added that moms, aunts, sisters, spouses and friends should be encouraged to schedule an appointment and take advantage of the preventative screenings.

The district will accept expired medications, supplements and vitamins that are properly labeled and not considered controlled substances. Attendees are asked to bring donations of non-perishable foods or canned goods, if possible, to help replenish local food pantries.

Appointments can be made by calling 708-788-6600.
