BERWYN – Berwyn's annual Memorial Day observance will be held Sunday, beginning with a procession to Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Stickney.

This year, the procession will begin lining up at 9 a.m., at Windsor and Oak Park Avenue, in the vicinity of MacNeal Hospital.

The procession will leave at 10 a.m. and proceed south on Oak Park Avenue to the cemetery where the Memorial Day service will be held at the World War I memorial at 11:30 a.m. Seating will be provided and refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Combined Veterans of Berwyn, including American Legion Post 256, Italian American War Veterans Post 1, VIETNOW, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2378 and American Legion Post 422.

The public is also reminded that the annual Poppy Days are here and donations are being accepted for poppies until May 27.

Veteran groups will be out selling poppies at intersections throughout the area.

The red crepe paper poppies, handmade by veterans as part of their therapeutic rehabilitation, are distributed across the country in exchange for donations that go directly to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans in our communities.
