Rising stars come to forefront for Glenbard North

Rising stars emerge for area high school baseball, softball teams

Many high school players are debuting in the spotlight this spring for area baseball and softball teams – from seniors stepping into leadership roles to underclassmen earning starting varsity jobs.

Lindsey Cherry

School: Glenbard North softball

Class: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: Cherry showed a glimpse of what she could do a year ago as the No. 2 pitcher behind Lilly Fecho. The senior has been exceptional this spring as the Panthers’ ace. Allowing just 47 hits in her first 82 innings of work, Cherry compiled a record of 9-3 with a 1.11 ERA and 88 strikeouts.

Kyle Crites

School: Glenbard North baseball

Class: Junior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: This junior moved into the No. 3 spot in the Panthers’ talented pitching rotation and has excelled in that role. Crites is 3-0 on the spring with a 3.08 ERA, allowing 21 hits in 25 innings while striking out 20.

Luke Domask

School: Glenbard West baseball

Class: Junior

Position: Center fielder

Impact: After moving up to the varsity at the end of last season, this junior has seen his role expand this spring. Hitting .383 on the year, Domask has two doubles and one triple to go along with 11 stolen bases. He also has been solid defensively, making just two errors.

Cece Dopart

School: Glenbard North softball

Class: Junior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: Stepping into the No. 2 spot on the staff behind ace Lindsey Cherry, Dopart has been dominant when inside the pitching circle. The junior is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA on the spring, striking out 23 and yielding just 17 hits and five walks in 21 innings.

Jenna Foreman

School: West Chicago softball

Class: Sophomore

Position: Pitcher/center fielder

Impact: In her first year on the varsity, this sophomore is contributing in a variety of ways for the Wildcats. Seeing time as a center fielder and pitcher, her biggest impact has come as the leadoff hitter in the batting order. Foreman already has stolen 20 bases without getting thrown out once.

AJ Seidler

School: West Chicago baseball

Class: Senior

Position: Catcher

Impact: After sharing catching duties a year ago, Seidler has taken over the full-time job and is flourishing. Hitting in the clean-up spot for the Wildcats, the senior is batting .382 with three doubles, two home runs and one triple to go along with 13 RBIs.

Ryan Storto

School: Glenbard North baseball

Class: Senior

Position: Infielder/outfielder

Impact: A standout three-sport athlete at Glenbard North, this senior is having a solid campaign on the diamond. Storto is batting .353 on the spring with six doubles, one home run, 13 runs scored and 10 RBIs.

Shelley Warmolts

School: Glenbard West softball

Class: Sophomore

Position: Outfielder/catcher

Impact: A first-year varsity player, Warmolts has worked her way into the clean-up spot in the batting order. The sophomore is batting .406 thus far, which includes a .500 average with runners in scoring position. She also has contributed four doubles, four stolen bases, six RBIs and 11 runs scored.
