WHEATON – In honor of Earth Day April 27, the Chicago Area Runners Association was one of many groups to help clean the Prairie Path.

Twelve volunteers and two staff members from the association cleaned a mile of the Prairie Path between Wiesbrook and Orchard roads in Wheaton.

Between 9 and 11 a.m., the group bagged about 10 bags of garbage and three bags of recycling, each about half-full.

The event was organized by the Illinois Prairie Path, a non-profit group. The communities of Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, West Chicago, Aurora Branch/Naperville, Elgin Branch/Oliver Square, Geneva, Maywood/Bellwood, Warrenville and Winfield all helped to clean portions of the 62-mile trail.
