VILLA PARK – Local leaders and members of the Villa Park Forestry and Park Division celebrated Arbor Day last week by planting a new tree in the village.

The tree was planted near the Tot Lot park during a ceremony at the intersection of Villa Avenue and Park Boulevard.

This year, Villa Park received its 28th consecutive recognition as a Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

To be eligible for the recognition, a municipality must have a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, a community forestry program and an Arbor Day observation event.
