U.S. Postal Service seeks to "Stamp Out Hunger"

WESTERN SUBURBS – On May 11, letter carriers will be picking up bags of food in addition to envelopes and packages as part of the country's biggest single-day food drive.

In its 21st year, the U.S. Postal Service's "Stamp Out Hunger" provides assistance to the millions of Americans who are struggling to put food on their tables.

Residents of La Grange, La Grange Park, Countryside, Hodgkins, McCook and Indian Head Park are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods –such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal – next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 11. Local letter carriers will collect the donations as they deliver mail, and various local food pantries will pick up the donated food from the LaGrange Post Office.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s annual study measuring food security, nearly 50 million Americans, including more than 17 million children, are struggling with hunger.
