The Stork's Cradle to close after 10 years in Wheaton

WHEATON – After 10 years in downtown Wheaton, the owners of The Stork's Cradle are preparing to close their doors to focus on the store's chenille children's dolls, which they hope to sell at stores across the country.

"In an effort to find balance in our lives we have decided to close the retail portion of our business and focus on our special little doll," reads an email sent to customers and others in the community on Wednesday.

After Wednesday, the store will remain closed until it reopens Monday to sell its remaining merchandise at a reduced price, said Paula Barrington, executive director of the Downtown Wheaton Association (DWA). Once everything is sold, The Stork's Cradle will close.

"Their closing is a sad surprise, but we do wish them all the best," Barrington said.

The Stork's Cradle, 210 W. Wesley St., is owned by mother-daughter team Bonnie Rae and Julie Reinhardt. Both were honored for their volunteer work in Wheaton at the DWA's annual meeting April 24. The store also won the Spirit of Wheaton Award.
