Glenbard East student receives scholarship from Tri-Town YMCA

LOMBARD – Marisa Markowski, a student at Glenbard East High School, was awarded the 2013 Henderson Scholarship from the Tri-Town YMCA. This award is given each year in memory of Gernon and Jane Henderson and recognizes a local student for outstanding volunteerism.

Markowski has been a member of the Glenbard East Key Club for the past four years and currently serves on the executive board. She has logged more than 300 volunteer hours during her high school career and is active with the Lilac Parade, the Tri-Town YMCA, the Helen Plum Memorial Library's reading program, NEDSRA/Special Olympics and other local activities.

In the fall, Markowski will attend Carthage College to pursue a bachelor's degree in business.

She was awarded the Henderson Scholarship by the Tri-Town YMCA's Board of Directors during its yearly dinner meeting April 17 at Lexington Square of Lombard.
