York’s Bode takes 5th in all-around at Silver meet

The Dukes took fifth at the West Suburban Silver meet on Saturday with a score of 131.35. Sam Bode placed fifth in the all-around. Bode was top 10 in all six events. Bryce Simpson was seventh in pommel horse and eighth on the horizontal bar. John DiCianni was eighth on vault. York will compete at the Downers Grove North sectional on Friday.

The Trojans lost the series finale against Riverside Brookfield, 15-11, on Friday. RB got the sweep with a seven-run sixth inning. Mike Wieringa had a double and three RBIs and Brandon Scott drilled a two-run home run for Timothy.

On Monday, Timothy dropped an 8-6 decision to Illiana Christian in eight innings. The Trojans had scored one in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Emerson Bandemer was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run.

IC Catholic

The Knights split a pair of games with Guerin early in the week. On Monday, they beat the Gators, 12-6, but lost the home game, 13-3, the next day.

Anjella Farmer was 3-for-3 in Monday’s game against Montini, but the Knights totaled just five hits in a 7-0 loss.

The Knights recovered to win, 11-4, over Aurora Central Catholic on Tuesday. Jessica Conenna was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and had 10 strikeouts to pick up the win. Catherine Klosterman was also 3-for-4.

IC made it two in a row with a 2-0 win over Rosary on Wednesday. Conenna pitched a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. Klosterman, Connena and Maria Kieliszewski had two hits for the Knights, which were given the No. 2 seed behind Lisle in the five-team Class 2A Aurora Central Catholic regional earlier this week.


IC Catholic

The Knights dropped a pair of games to Class 2A schools. On Monday, St. Francis won, 6-0, in Elmhurst and the next day IC fell to Resurrection, 3-0. IC is the top seed in its own Class 1A regional and beat Aurora Central Catholic, the top seed in the next regional, 6-3 on April 22, so the Knights are hoping for a deep playoff run.

The Trojans beat Lisle 2-0 on Saturday to finish with a 2-1 record and second-place finish in TC’s tournament. Francis Parker won the tournament with a 3-0 record.

Jake Hooker won the 300-meter hurdles at the Chicago Christian Invitational on Friday. He also was third in the 110-meter hurdles.



Emma Fisher won the 1,600-meter run at the Wheaton Warrenville South Tiger Invitational on Friday. The Dukes’ 4 x 200 relay was third with a time of 1:46.84. Kathryn Schlemmel (3200), Emily Ducey (800), Hannah Wahlgren (800), Julia Biegler (high jump and long jump) and Emily Iannucchi (triple jump) also scored team points by finishing in the top nine. The Dukes were 14 out of 19 teams in the overall standings.

The Trojans took fourth out of 13 teams at the Chicago Christian Invitational in Palos Heights on Friday. Hannah Bosman won the triple jump at 32 feet, 4 inches. Timothy was second in the 4 x 800 relay. Christie Mittlestaedt was third in the 800-meter run.



The Dukes knocked off Lane Tech, 13-11, on Monday. York will host the West Suburban Conference tournament this weekend.



State favorite Hinsdale Central swept the Dukes in a West Suburban Silver dual match April 25. York bounced back with a 6-1 win over Glenbard West the next day. The Dukes finished third at the 24-team Lincoln-Way East Invite on Saturday. The No. 1 doubles team of Jonathon Elsey and Alex Riddle placed third in their bracket. On Monday, the Dukes lost 6-1 to Libertyville.

On Tuesday, the Dukes swept Proviso West 7-0 and then lost to Downers Grove South 5-3 later at night.

The Trojans edged Fenton, 4-3, in a Metro Suburban Conference dual April 25. Riley DeHaan won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Logan DeVries picked up a three-set win at No. 3. Timothy lost to Glenbard South, 5-2, on Tuesday with DeHaan winning at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Tim Huizinga and Justin Rhiner also won.



The Dukes took second in the West Suburban Silver meet on Friday finishing two points behind winner Downers Grove North. York’s top two singles players, Gina Schneider and Julia Carlson, combined to win the third doubles title. Schneider was third at first singles and Carlson was the runner-up at second singles. Hannah Clark and Hannah Paist won at fourth doubles.



The Dukes beat Wheaton Academy, 12-4, on Saturday and Sandburg, 18-5, on Tuesday to rack up seven straight wins after an 0-3 start.



The York pair of Matt Penning and Domenico Vigilante caught three fish weighing a total of 5.85 pounds at the sectional at Braidwood Lake. Joe Stolz was the driver of the boat. The Dukes advanced to the state meet at Carlyle Lake.
