MT. PROSPECT – The postseason isn’t far away, and the York boys track and field team seems to be peaking just in time.

The Dukes had three relay wins and three individual wins April 26 to take first at the 17-team Wanner Knights Invitational at Prospect.

Jack Achen, Alex Bashqawi, Alex Baughman and Zach Herrera won the 4 x 800-meter relay in 7:56.89. According to dyestat.com, it is the fastest recorded time in Class 3A. It already is a state-qualifying time and times should drop as runners taper for the postseason. Bashqawi also won the 800-meter run.

Josh Farrar, Ben Gornick, Emmett McCoy and Jeff Ostling won the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 43.34 seconds to edge Lyons Township by one one-hundredth of a second. Farrar, Andrew Iwaskiewicz, McCoy and Ostling teamed up to win the 4 x 200 in 1:29.25. Both times were season bests.

Reid Smith was first in the high jump and pole vault. Chris May was runner-up in the 3,200. In all, York had 11 top-four finishes at the meet and finished just above West Suburban Silver-rival Lyons Township with the Silver meet coming May 11 at Concordia University.

York will head to the Glenbard North sectional on May 17.
