Rams softball gets hot at right time with back-to-back wins

LOMBARD – After a dreary spring, Glenbard East softball is warming up with the weather.

The Rams won just two of their first 11 games, but picked up back-to-back wins this week to build positive momentum.

East beat West Aurora, 9-3 on Monday and topped Wheaton North, 4-3, in nine innings the next day.

“We’re still making errors, but we’re getting the hits and we’re making up for it,” Rams coach Val Pinzker said. “We’re putting it together at the plate. We made some changes to the hitting order and we’re just playing good right now.”

Alyssa Haught was 4-for-4 with four RBIs in the win over West Aurora. Kara Tadda picked up her first win of the season in the circle and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate.

Carissa Slobodecki was the hero against the Falcons. She singled in Kailey Lyons with two outs in the seventh inning to tie the score at 3-3 and later scored Brittany Plimmer on a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth.

“It feels really good,” Slobodecki said. “We have a great team this year. We might not have come off strong, but we’re definitely coming on strong at the end here.”

Grace Miller earned her third win of the season by pitching nine innings against the Falcons. She overcame six errors by the Rams.

The Rams have a chance to recover from the slow start with a busy schedule ahead.

“I think just playing consistent and playing in warm weather has helped us,” Pinzker said. “These next two weeks we play every single day except for Sundays. Now is the time to get hot.”
