The Rams won the Downers Grove North Trojan Invite on Saturday with a 4-1 record. East losto to Payton in the pool play opener 23-25, 25-19, 11-15. East’s winning run began with a 25-13, 25-21 victory over Joliet Catholic. The Rams topped Metea Valley 23-25, 25-17, 15-12 and advanced to the semifinals via a games won tiebreaker.
In the semifinal, the Rams met rival Willowbrook for the third time this season and for the first time defeated the Warriors. Joey Farrell had a whopping 21 kills in the 25-14, 25-17 win. The Rams picked up the tournament title with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-14 win over Metea Valley. Farrell had 23 kills and four aces and Dan Carlson had seven blocks.
For the tournament, Farrell finished with 86 kills. Setter Cory Soehren racked up 135 assists.
East beat Glenbard North 25-22, 25-21 with 15 kills from Farrell in a DuPage Valley Conference match on Tuesday.
The Blazers dropped a three-game match to Leyden 15-25, 25-18, 20-25 on Tuesday.
After a 1-0 win over Downers Grove North on April 25, the Warriors swept Proviso West in a West Suburban Conference crossover series. Dave Cericola pitched a three-hit shutout against the Trojans. Willowbrook beat the Panthers by scores of 16-0, 10-0 and 15-2. The Warriors picked up a West Suburban Gold win over Proviso East, 10-0, on Wednesday.
The Lady Broncos entered Thursday’s game against Rosary with a 12-game winning streak. Recent wins over St. Francis (11-3), Niles North (11-7) and IC Catholic (7-0) extended the streak. Isabell Alexander was 2-for-2 with three runs scored in a 7-0 win over IC Catholic. Lauren Trojnar struck out eight batters in six innings.
Montini beat Chicago Christian, 20-5, on Wednesday. Shaylee Lewis had a home run and four RBIs. Morganne Evans also drove in four runs.
The Blazers lost, 5-3, to West Suburban Gold leader Downers Grove South on April 25 despite a home run from Danielle Ciaglia and two hits from Crystal Marinelli. Marinelli added two more hits and picked up the win in the 9-5 victory over Leyden the next day. Ari Renc and Alex DeSilvio also had two hits each.
On Saturday, AT split a doubleheader with West Suburban Silver-leader Downers Grove North. Bri Murray picked up her fifth win of the season in the 5-2 Blazer victory in Game 1. Murray and Ciaglia each had two hits, as well.
The Blazers returned to Gold action with a 13-2 loss to Hinsdale South on Monday. Carla Muell had two hits in the loss. Sabrina Muell homered in a 9-4 loss to Morton on Tuesday.
The Warriors lost two in a nonconference doubleheader to York on Saturday, 4-1 and 3-0. Willowbrook got back on track with a West Suburban Gold win over Leyden on Tuesday. The Warriors won 8-2 with five home runs. Alyssa Ressinger had two homers and Cheyenne Brunig, Kelly Campagna and Darian Pelsor each had one blast. Pelsor also picked up the win in the circle with 12 strikeouts.
The Blazers lost to Streamwood, 6-1 on Saturday and Hinsdale South, 3-0, on Tuesday.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
The Rams won the 4 x 800-meter relay at Hinsdale South’s Yavorski Invitational on Friday. Jack Peters also won the 800 open.
Taylor White won the triple jump at Oswego’s Roger Wilcox Invitational. Juan Valdez was runner-up in the 800-meter run. Israel Olascoaga was third in the 300-meter hurdles and Ron Duling was third in the high jump. Luis Miranda was fourth in the 400 and Joe Atria was fourth in the 1600.
The Warriors won their own quad with Leyden, Fenton and Lemont visiting Villa Park for the meet. Willowbrook won the 4 x 100- and 4 x 400-meter relays and had eight individual winners.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Freshman Lindsay Graham was second in the 3,200-meter run at the Wheaton Warrenville South Tiger Invitational with a time of 10:47.71. The Rams’ 4 x 100-meter relay and Jamie Gradishar in the pole vault earned fourth-place finishes in the 19-team meet.
Jada Stills claimed first place in shot put and discus at the Glenbard West quad on Tuesday. Colleen Krawczykowski won the long jump and the Warriors’ 4 x 800-meter relay also took first with a time of 9:58.7.
Theresa Connelly was fourth in the 800-meter run at Conant’s Cougar Twilight Girls ABC Invitational on Friday. The 4 x 800 relay also placed fourth at the meet.
The Rams swept West Chicago 7-0, in a DuPage Valley Conference dual match Tuesday. Nick Cornell, Nathan Delawder, Shehdad Khundmiri and Jason Hwang all won singles matches.
The Warriors placed fourth at the Prairie Ridge Invite on Saturday.
Izzy Kantor was third at third singles at the West Suburban Gold meet. Kat Gjonaj also was third at sixth singles.
The Warriors took second at the West Suburban Gold meet. All 10 of Willowbrook’s singles players made conference championship matches. Kelsey Cizek at sixth singles was the Warriors’ only winner. Sandy Hernandez and Amanda Wendt won at third doubles.
The Warriors won the West Suburban Gold meet with a score of 133.2. Willowbrook edged host Downers Grove South by .15 points. Keawe Winstead won the all-around with a score of 49.15. Winstead won pommel horse (8.35), still rings (7.95) and parallel bars (8.3). Eduardo Alvarez was just ahead of Winstead on vault with a 9.35 score. Second-place finishers were Bret Golz (floor) and Dominic Lofrano (pommel horse).
Willowbrook followed up with a fifth-place finish at the Wheaton Warrenville South sectional on Wednesday. The Warriors scored 129.95 points. Winstead will make his second state appearance after automatically qualifying via fifth-place finishes in pommel horse and parallel bars. He has a good chance of an at-large spot in the all-around as the sixth-place finisher.
The Blazers placed fourth at the West Suburban Gold meet with a score of 114.4. R.J. Infusino was fourth on still rings and all-around Marco Martinez placed sixth on horizontal bar.
AT scored 109.4 points at the Wheaton Warrenville South sectional on Wednesday. Aaron De La Cruz is an at-large state qualifier hopeful after placing sixth on parallel bars with a score of 8.55.
The Rams were eighth at the Wheaton Warrenville South sectional with a team score of 113.95.
The Broncos undefeated start to the season came to an end with a 7-3 loss at Marmion Academy on Monday.
A pair of out-of-state opponents came to Lombard and traveled back home with losses. Montini beat Blake School (Minn.), 15-10, on Saturday and beat Birmingham (Mich.), 16-7, on Sunday. Montini beat Neuqua Valley, 17-6, on Tuesday and Lake Zurich, 19-3, on Wednesday to improve to 11-1.
