Oak Brook police warn against ruse burglaries

OAK BROOK – The Oak Brook Police Department is urging residents to be cautious for scams, deception and burglaries. Elderly residents are of particular concern, as criminals have been targeting this group, according to a news release.

Ruse burglaries have been reported in several surrounding communities, including Oak Brook. The most recent ruse burglary that occurred in Oak Brook resulted in about $1 million in jewelry reported stolen. The case is currently being investigated by the Oak Brook Investigations Division.

Officials report offenders of ruse burglaries will use deceptive tactics to gain access to a home, including posing as a utility worker, asking to view property lines, posing as a neighbor and wanting to trim a tree.

For more information on ruse burglaries and other crimes against the elderly, join the Oak Brook Police Department at 6 p.m. May 9 in the Sam Dean Board Room at the Butler Government Center, or call 630-368-8734.
