Lemont High School student takes home award at IHSA Journalism State Finals

LEMONT – Lemont High School senior Laura Harding, who serves as head editor and editorials editor of the school’s newspaper, The Tom-Tom, finished third in the Editorial Writing category at the 2013 IHSA Journalism State Finals on April 26.

It is the third time in four years a Lemont student has earned a medalist finish at the competition.

Harding advanced to the IHSA State Finals after finishing third in the Editorial Writing category at the IHSA Lewis University Sectional.

Four other seniors also participated in the state finals based on their finishes at the sectional. Design assistants Jordan Gembara and Marisa Mars won the sectional titles in Info Graphics and News Writing, respectively. Design Editor Ashlee Berner collected a runner-up finish in Newspaper Design. Kayla Neetz, a Tom-Tom Editorial Writer, was second in the Broadcast News Writing category.
