Fountaindale's Studio 300 closed indefinitely as library assesses flood damage

BOLINGBROOK –  Fountaindale Public Library's digital media center Studio 300 will be closed "for several months" as the library repairs flood damage, according to library administrators.

Studio 300 was under about an inch of water following the April 18 storm, incurring extensive damage to the carpet, dry wall, computer tables and possibly the recording studios, according to Fountaindale Communications Manager Chrissy Little.

The digital media center, located in the library basement, began taking on water from the storm after two sump pumps were "overwhelmed with water," Little said. Although the pumps did not break, neither was equipped to handle such a high volume of water in the short timespan.

As a result, the basement took on an inch of water, flooding Studio 300 and short-circuiting one of the elevators.

Fountaindale began cleanup the week of April 21, ripping out the saturated carpet and vinyl base along the walls. Crews also removed the bottom 2 feet of dry wall and some insulation, Little said.

Additionally, computer tables in the center of the studio are significantly damaged and need to be repaired or replaced, she said.

Studio 300 staff is still assessing the condition of the sound recording studios.

"There is a significant amount of work to be done and we are currently estimating that the studio will be closed for several months," Little said. "Fortunately, most of the equipment looks to be in good shape."

The 2,000-square-foot space features state-of-the-art computers, audio and video recording studios, group collaboration rooms, and a plethora of cables, cameras, disks and drives. Fountaindale hosted the Studio 300 grand opening in March.

The center's programming and activities, most of which are at capacity, will still be offered in different rooms or computer labs, Little added.
