FEMA visiting Downers Grove this week to assess flood damage
DOWNERS GROVE – Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will be in the Downers Grove area this week to assess flood damage, according to the village.
The visit is the next step in the process to obtain a federal disaster declaration. The village added that FEMA assistance is not yet available; it will only be made available if DuPage County is included in a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
With more than 40 Illinois counties affected by the flood, it is likely to take several weeks before FEMA is able to complete their assessment and a determination regarding providing federal disaster assistance can be made, according to the village.
The village encourages residents to monitor the Protect DuPage website here: www.dupageco.org/protectdupage
Downers Grove already submitted more than a thousand surveys regarding flood damage completed by residents to FEMA. It said residents who have not yet completed a survey may still do so, because the information is helpful in compiling a thorough assessment of flood damage.
The survey is not an application for individuals to receive funds, but the first step in determining whether state and federal disaster funding will be made available to the area.
