Heidi Urrieta, 4, leaps ahead of her sister, Yaime, 9, of Villa Park, as they play a life-size game of Candy Land at the Iowa Community Center in Villa Park on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The annual event is sponsored by The Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department.

VILLA PARK – The classic game of Candy Land came to life for local children this month when the Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual Lifesize Candy Land game.

The gym at the Iowa Community Center, 338 Iowa Ave., was transformed on April 20 into the board game, and children got to play the role of game pieces as they traveled through the Gumdrop Mountains and Candy Cane Forest to reach King Kandy's Candy Castle.

Before game play began, children got to decorate cupcakes and make sweet treats to take home.

Lifesize Candy Land is a popular, annual event that is hosted each spring by the Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department.
