Bolingbrook High School staff eyes students' good deeds
BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook High School officials are excited about a new program designed to reinforce good behavior and encourage responsible leadership.
Known as Discipline by Design, the program involves participation from not only administration, teachers, staff and parents but also residents, who are asked to support and recognize students who demonstrate good character and citizenship.
Discipline by Design demonstrates to students and parents that youth will be more successful when they are responsible for their own choices, according to a release from the district.
A committee of staff and students generated a list of student incentives and behaviors that will be recognized, including punctuality, inclussivity, academic achievement, classroom and hallway behavior, and respecting the school rules and policy.
Students “caught doing something good” by a staff member receive a yellow slip. After placing the slip in one of two high school drop boxes, the student is eligible for weekly drawings.
Rewards come from donations from the Bolingbrook Community. Items have included Raider wear, food from local restaurants, free admission to a local ice rink, a Bears autographed picture, backpacks, tickets to Joliet Slammers games and Pelican Harbor season passes.
