BERWYN – Turano Baking Company of Berwyn was recognized for a significant contribution to Marklund, a nonprofit organization specializing in the care of children and adults with profound disabilities.

The Turano Foundation awarded $3,300 to Marklund to purchase a lift, a specialized piece of equipment used to transfer a resident from a wheelchair to a bed or other location while maintaining safety for both the resident and staff who handle the transfer.

Also recognized was Bridgestone America Trust Fund for its $3,000 donation that will be used to purchase a state-of-the-art vital signs monitor to further improve the efficiency of the nursing team who care for 21 of the most medically fragile individuals.

Corporate and Foundation Relations Director Vicki Krystof stated residents require highly specialized medical and therapeutic equipment, both of which tend to grow in cost each year, adding Marklund was grateful for the support.

Marklund is a nonprofit organization that makes everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities.

Marklund annually serves nearly 200 families throughout the greater Chicagoland area. The organization features three sites: the Marklund at Mill Creek campus in Geneva, Marklund Philip Center for Children in Bloomingdale, which includes the Marklund Day School and Life Skills Academy and the Marklund Resale Store in Wood Dale.
