Riverside resident installs solar panels, will host discussion

Published: Friday, May 3, 2013 12:30 p.m. CDT

RIVERSIDE – Scott Jansen, a resident of Riverside, will host a discussion in the Great Room of the Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, on May 8 on the subject of solar panels.

Jansen recently took advantage of a changed zoning ordinance to install solar panels on the roof of his detached garage.

In his presentation, which will begin at 7 p.m., Jansen will share his experience with the ordinance, his motivations for wanting to capture solar energy and the design of his system.

Jansen installed the panels himself and will offer residents advice on doing the same, as well as share the final results.

Anyone intersted in installing solar panels on their home is welcome to attend the event, which is free and open to the public. The discussion is a joint effort between the Frederick Law Olmsted Society, Riverside Sustainability Council and the Riverside library.
