The Friars went 3-3 in a busy schedule last week. Fenwick beat Gordon Tech, Seton and Providence Catholic while losing to St. Joseph twice and Brother Rice once.
Justin Rodriguez exploded for a 4-for-4 day in a 21-6 win over Seton on Thursday. Gino Cavalieri was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Rodriguez was 3-for-4 in the 5-4 win over Providence on Saturday.
The Chargers posted a 4-0 week with wins over St. Ignatius, Leo and two over Fenwick. St. Joe scored 14 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to blowout Leo 17-3 on Thursday. Sean Holas was 4-for-4 in a 7-6 win over Fenwick on April 24. Holas was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, three runs scored and two walks in Saturday's 12-4 win over the Friars.
The Roadrunners picked up a pair of East Suburban Catholic Conference wins over St. Viator in a doubleheader on Thursday. Mia Davis and Mary Grace Chizewski had three RBIs each in an 11-3 Game 1 win. Lindsay Zasadzinski pitched a three-hit shutout in the 5-0 Game 2 victory.
On Saturday, Providence Catholic took two from the Roadrunners, beating Nazareth 9-6 and 2-0.
Jess Mrozek was 2-for-3 and pitched a complete game in a 2-1 win over Lane on Thursday. Two days later, Marian Catholic swept the Friars in a doubleheader with 2-0 and 16-1 scores. Mrozek homered for the only Fenwick run in Game 2.
The Lions picked up two wins in the consolation bracket of the Naperville Invitational. LT beat Wheaton North 4-1 on Thursday and followed up with a 2-0 win over Fremd.
Briana Keska scored one goal and assisted the other in the Mustangs' 2-0 win over Leyden last Wednesday. Keska added two goals and three assists in a 7-0 rout over Proviso East the next day.
Glenbard South jumped on the Bulldogs in a 5-1 Raider win on Saturday. Both teams entered with perfect records in the Metro Suburban Conference. RB beat Elmwood Park 3-2 on Thursday to set up the showdown.
Gianna Milaro scored two goals and had two assists in a 5-1 win over Marian Catholic on April 24. Kelly Renehan also had two assists. The Roadrunners fell to Carmel 3-0 on Saturday.
The Friars went 3-0 last week. On April 23, Fenwick knocked off Marist 1-0 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference match. Two days, later the Friars beat Trinity 3-1 and on Saturday they topped St. Ignatius 2-1.
The Lions won at Hinsdale South 23-25, 25-17, 27-25 last Wednesday to improve to 16-2 heading into Tuesday's big West Suburban Silver match with Glenbard West. Marko Kostich had 22 assists and Clayton Smentek added six kills for LT.
The Bulldogs took third at the Downers Grove North Invite on Saturday. RB lost a three-game match to the host Trojans in the opener and lost to Willowbrook in the second match.
The Bulldogs beat Schaumburg 25-20, 25-19 and advanced to the semifinals via a tiebreaker after three teams in the pool had 1-2 records. RB took on Metea Valley, a team that beat RB in the final of the Joliet West Tournament early in the season, and fell to the Mustangs 23-25, 22-25. RB got even with Willowbrook to take third with a 25-22, 26-24 win. Tim Thor-Larsen and Mike Kosik made the all-tournament team.
The Panthers picked up wins over Holy Trinity (26-24, 25-7) and Elgin (24-26, 25-15, 25-12) over the weekend.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
The Lions finished second behind conference-rival York at the 15-team Wanner Knight Invitational at Prospect. Matt Harris won the long jump and was second in the 110-meter hurdles. Lino Mogorovic was second in the 300 hurdles. LT's 4 x 400 relay team of Alex Lima, Mogorovic, Pat Rhode and Antwan Swan won the title. The 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays were second-place finishers.
Omero Montalvo took third in the 1,600-meter run at the Jim Arnold Invitational at Glenbard West to be the Mustangs' highest finisher. Morton tied for 13th in the team standings.
The Bulldogs placed second in all four relays at Hinsdale South's Yavorski Invitational on Friday. Individually, RB had four third-place finishers: Mike Hornung (shot put), David Swon (long jump), Lewis Rogers (300-meter hurdles) and Gerrard Moody (110 hurdles).
The Roadrunners placed second at the Ridgewood Invite on Friday. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Nick Murphy, Julian Love, Cody Roll and Zach Manuel placed first. Cody Roll won both hurdles races. Other winners included Mike Owens (shot put), Nick Murphy (200), Manuel (100 and long jump).
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Freshman Grace Cronin was second in the high jump at New Trier's Trevian Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Olivia Ryan placed third in the 800-meter run.
Emani Johnson won the long jump with a 17-foot leap and was fourth in the 200-meter dash at Wheaton Warrenville South's 19-team Tiger Invitational on Friday.
BOYS WATER POLO
The Lions are heating up as the postseason nears. LT won the Stevenson Tournament over the weekend with big wins, including state-rival Fenwick. LT beat Naperville Central 11-1 and Brother Rice 8-2 in pool play on Friday.
In Saturday's championship round, they beat the Friars 9-5 and took out New Trier 9-8. Peter Dore scored three against the Friars and Josh Hirt and Joe Shannon each scored a pair. Shannon scored the game-winning goal against New Trier and had four goals to help LT come back from 8-5 down.
The Friars took second at the Stevenson Tournament. An 8-6 win over Loyola and a 10-3 win over Palatine on Friday sent Fenwick to the championship round the next day. There, the Friars beat New Trier 7-5, but lost to defending state champions Lyons Township 9-5. Trevor McLean scored three times in the win over the Trevians.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Five seniors were honored as part of senior night for the Lions on Thursday against Waubonsie Valley. Seniors Blair Hopwood, Carly Strass, Megan Wonderling, Tegan Moore and Molly McDonnell helped LT pick up the win.
The Friars traveled to Rockford, Mich., for a tournament and headed back home with a 4-0 record. Fenwick beat Lincoln-Way Central 13-4 and the host Rockford team 10-8 in the championship round.
Sydney Veon scored two goals and had four steals in RB's 10-6 win over Northside Prep on April 24. Emma Veon also scored twice.
The Lions squeaked out an 8-7 win at Naperville Central on April 24 and beat Oak Park-River Forest 12-11 on Saturday to improve to 12-3 on the season.
The Lions beat Fenwick 17-4 on Thursday and split a pair of games on Saturday. LT beat Maine South 13-8 in the morning and dropped a 15-14 game to Birmingham (Mich.) in the afternoon.
The Mustangs beat Addison Trail 5-2 in a West Suburban Gold dual match on Thursday.
RB traveled to DeKalb for the Independent Conference meet on Saturday and placed fifth. Alex Bakalich was the Bulldogs' top finisher by taking third in her singles bracket.
The Lions placed third at the West Suburban Silver meet Saturday at Hinsdale Central. LT scored 146.7 points to finish behind the host Red Devils (148.2) and Downers Grove North (147.3).
Chris Rediehs was second in the all-around with a total of 52.4. Rediehs won the parallel bars with a 9.35 and was top three in three other events. Mennemeier was second on pommel horse (8.65). Fifth-place event finishers were Jackson McCoy on floor (9.3), Noah Mennemeier on vault (8.85) and Dave Bielski was fifth on horizontal bar (7.7).
The Mustangs got a taste of Friday night lights in a match against St. Ignatius at the stadium in Berwyn. Morton tied the Wolfpack 20-20 to remain undefeated this season.
