WEST CHICAGO - Saturday's DuPage Valley Conference matchup started off with a bang for Wheaton Warrenville South.
It ended the same way.
A leadoff homer by Eric Glitz gave the Tigers a lead they would never relinguish in a 2-1 victory that was saved by a diving catch in the seventh inning by Brian Summers.
In what developed into a pitcher's dual between Wheaton Warrenville South's Rich O'Neil and West Chicago's Mike Zajac, Glitz got the visitors off on the right foot with a round-tripper on the third pitch of the contest.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth on a bases loaded walk.
The score remained at 2-0 until the bottom of the seventh, when the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out and plated a run on a groundout to first base. After an intentional walk reloaded the bases, AJ Siedler hit what appeared to be a game-winning flair to right-center. But Summers ran back and made a diving snag to end the contest.
O'Neil pitched six and one-third innings with Baylor Holmes notching the save. Zajac struck out 11 in a complete-game effort.
