LISLE – Six inches of rain fell on the Lisle community April 17 and 18, causing floods and millions of dollars in property damage and leaving some homeless.

But the human response to the challenging days after the floods was inspiring.

For Beth Hand, that was exactly the case.

The owner of Hand N Paw pet groomer in downtown Lisle stepped up alongside the hundreds of other volunteers across town to lend a hand to the community. Her shop offered free do-it-yourself dog washes last week.

“We just had a ton of dogs coming in after the floods hit town, and many of them smelled awful. We think it was from some of the sewage in the flood waters,” said Hand, who owns and operates the business, 4912 Main St. “We figured it was just something we can do for everyone, as bad as it was around town.”

Typically, the do-it-yourself washes – done in metal tubs in the back of the shop – cost pet owners up to $16.

Hand will mark seven years of business this summer in Lisle. Her shop can be reached at 630-852-TAIL, or for information, visit: www.handnpaw.net
