To the Editor: My husband and I — then longtime residents of Elmhurst — frequented a family restaurant located at York and Butterfield roads called Mr. G's for many years. We always enjoyed their home-cooked meals, homemade desserts and friendly atmosphere. Usually the owner, Steve, greets you with some silly joke to lighten your mood.
A few months ago, my husband of 64 years passed away and I thought I would never be able to go into Mr. G's again now that I was alone. I hesitated, and finally one day decided to go it alone and have my supper there.
Now I can truly say that this is a "family" restaurant. They greeted me, gave me some space and then proceeded, little by little, to tease me and make me feel at ease.
If you want the experience of good food in a small-town restaurant atmosphere, where the owner and staff really care, try Mr. G's.
