Elmhurst College art symposium exlpores humor

ELMHURST – Elmhurst College presents "Laughing Matters: Humor in Art," a one-day symposium on Saturday that explores humor's role in 1960s and 1970s American art.

Elmhurst College's Chicago Imagist collection inspired the symposium, which is funded by the Terra Foundation. The event will feature many of the same artists as the Imagist collection, such as Jim Nutt, Karl Wirsum, Gladys Nilsson, Ray Yoshida and Barbara Rossi. Discussions among scholars and experts will revolve around how these and other artists used satire, irony and puns in their work.

"Laughing Matters" is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DePaul Art Museum, 935 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago. Although the event is free and open to the public, seating is limited.

To register, visit elmhurst.edu/humorart. For more information, contact Suellen Rocca by emailing srocca@elmhurst.edu or calling 630-617-6110.
