Westmont sophomore shortstop Charlie Donovan connects with a Latin pitch in the Sentinels' 11-1 win April 25 in Westmont. Donovan finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.

WESTMONT — Westmont High School's baseball team took advantage of four Latin errors and scored multiple runs in three innings in an 11-1, five-inning win Thursday in Westmont.

The win was the Sentinels' ninth consecutive victory.

The Sentinels (13-3 overall) struck for three runs with two outs in the bottom of the first. Charlie Donovan laced a triple down the right field line and came home when Jean Pietrzak singled one batter later. Pietrzak stole second and third before John Kelly walked, and both came home on Zach Moran's single down the third base line.

Westmont scored two unearned runs in the second on Donovan's double, then struck for five runs in the fourth as it sent all nine batters to the plate. A pair of errors, two passed balls and a wild pitch that scored Donovan helped keep the inning alive.

Greg Pietrzak helped his own cause with an RBI triple for the final run in the fourth. He earned the complete game pitching win by working around four hits and three walks.

Three of the Sentinels next five games are Interstate Eight Conference contests. They travel to take on Herscher at 4:30 p.m. Friday and host Coal City at 4:30 p.m. Monday before facing the Coalers on the road at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
