College Paper Buddy, by St. Charles native Anna Kendall, is available WHERE AND HOW??????

ST. CHARLES – Anna Kendall, a 2000 St. Charles High School graduate, recently published her first book, “College PaperBuddy: The Quick, Friendly Guide to Writing Quality Research Papers.”

Now living in Chicago, Kendall – who taught English in Barcelona, Spain, after earning her master’s degree at DePaul University – also has published stories for various “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books.

She took some time to chat with reporter Ashley Rhodebeck, via email, about her experiences in Spain and why she wrote “College PaperBuddy.”

Ashley Rhodebeck: What was it like to teach English in Spain?

Anna Kendall: I left for Barcelona one week after finishing my MA in Writing Pedagogy program at DePaul University, so it was great to be able to immediately apply my knowledge of teaching [English as a second language] in an actual classroom. Living abroad in Spain was an amazing experience, and it was so enriching to experience a different culture.

AR: By “teach English,” does that mean you taught Spaniards how to speak English, or did it focus more on literature and language arts?

AK: I worked with high school and college students in a learning center, and we primarily focused on improving their English writing and speaking. It was a really helpful experience, as I was able to practice my Spanish – and even learn a little Catalan.

AR: What prompted you to write “College PaperBuddy?”

AK: The idea for creating “College PaperBuddy” stemmed from my work as a writing tutor during graduate school. I realized that the students, who are busy with classes, jobs, family commitments, etc., could really benefit from a quick, practical guide for writing quality research papers – a guide that could provide all of the necessary information in a timesaving manner.

AR: Did you do a lot of research for the book, or did you draw on a lot of personal experience?

AK: I definitely did a ton of research for the book. I also drew upon the knowledge I gained in graduate school, as well as the information I had gathered from researching papers that I presented at conferences. Most importantly, I based the book on my own time-saving system for writing research papers, which helped me to not only write successful papers in college, but also save time so that I could have fun.

AR: Why was it important for you to write about the subject in a fun manner?

AK: In addition to there not being any quick and practical books on writing research papers, there weren’t any books that presented the information in a fun and enjoyable manner. The bookshelves of libraries and bookstores are filled with long, and quite boring, manuals full of theories and impractical information. Therefore, I felt it was important to write a guide that presented practical information in a fun manner, which makes the writing process seem more enjoyable and even more accessible. The book includes fun examples, tips and illustrations, and it’s a great resource for high school and college students, as well as returning students.

AR: Do you have plans to write any other books for students?

AK: Presently, I’m working on developing a Spanish-language version of CPB to join the paperback version on Amazon, as well as the e-reader version on Kindle. After this, I definitely plan to write more books for students.
