ELMHURST – The Arbor Day Foundation has named Elmhurst College a Tree Campus USA for the third year in a row.

At 11:30 a.m. Friday, the college will plant a frontier elm on the south side of Niebuhr Hall, 190 Prospect Ave., to commemorate the accomplishment. Assistant professor of biology Merrilee Guenther and certified arborist Dave Froede from Bartlett Tree Experts will speak at the event.

Hanging tags, provided by the Morton Arboretum, will describe the benefits of different trees on campus.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, a Cub Scout troop from Hawthorne Elementary School will help the college's grounds staff replace two trees and plant in the campus nursery.

Both events are free and open to the public. Call 630-617-6145 or email hackp@elmhurst.edu for more information.
