Several area high schools have been listed as the Best High Schools in Illinois under a new U.S. News and World Report ranking.

Hinsdale Central High School ranks No. 8 on the list after the top spots were taken by Chicago schools. It beat out other schools well known for their academics, such as New Trier Township and Lane Technical high schools.

The rankings are based on several factors, including student-to-teacher ratio and test scores.

Other suburban schools on the list include Riverside Brookfield High School at No. 15, just after Lane Tech, Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville at No. 23 and York Community High School in Elmhurst at No. 29.
