Prescott's 11 strikeouts lead LT to series win over Glenbard West
Tom Prescott went three over the minimum in 5-0 LT victory
WESTERN SPRINGS — Lyons Township was in need of a big start and got it from Tom Prescott.
The senior fired a gem, 11 strikeouts and just three batters over the minimum, to lift the Lions to a series-clinching 5-0 victory in the rubber game against Glenbard West on Monday.
Prescott allowed just two hits and two walks, and induced a double play in the sixth inning, to keep the Hilltoppers at bay.
“My last couple performances weren’t what I wanted them to be," Prescott said. "I think we got off to kind of a shaky start, but we had a talk with the coaches yesterday and they whipped us into shape. It’s all about focusing and that’s what I did today on the mound and at the plate.”
By his own admission Prescott wasn't been as successful as he'd like earlier in the season. The same could be said for LT as a whole, which now has an 11-5 overall record and 6-3 in the West Suburban Silver after splitting Saturday's doubleheader in Glen Ellyn.
Prescott, a University of Chicago recruit, also had two hits and a walk at the plate to help his own cause.
“He’s been doing better his last two outings," said LT coach George Ushela. "His first couple starts he walked a lot of guys. He was always behind hitters and walking guys. Now his last two outings he’s been pitching ahead.”
Keith Lehmann had a two-run double as part of a five-run second inning. Mike Lorenz, Sam Heilenbach and Doug Miller also drove in a run each during the big inning.
Tyler Dayton took the loss for West (6-9, 4-8 WSS) in a complete game performance. Dayton kept LT scoreless outside of the big second inning.
Luke Domask and Daniel Simonelt managed the Hilltoppers' only hits on the day.
