Prep roundup: York girls soccer picks up conference win
The Knights picked up back-to-back road wins over Rich East, 13-2 on Saturday, and Walther Lutheran, 6-3 on Monday.
The Trojans fell to Riverside Brookfield 5-1 on Monday. Justin VanderNaald allowed one earned run on the mound.
After losing a doubleheader to a highly ranked Naperville Central team on Saturday, the Dukes earned a West Suburban Silver win over Oak Park-River Forest on Tuesday. Taylor Pankau was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs in a 3-2 loss to the Redhawks in Game 1. The Dukes lost Game 2 10-0 in six innings with Abby Solem collecting two hits.
In the 2-1 win over OPRF, Isabella Jaeger was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Brooke Bandy earned a complete game win in the circle.
The Knights lost to St. Edward 5-2 on Saturday. IC surrendered five runs in the first inning and couldn’t complete the comeback. Anjella Farmer was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Knights knocked off Marian Central 8-2 on Monday. Gabby Curran was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Farmer and Kathryn Fajardo were both 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Catherine Klostermann struck out 12 in the circle.
Two second-half goals boosted the Dukes in a 2-0 win over Glenbard West on Tuesday. Alyssa and Jaime Kovatchis each scored header goals in the victory. York is now 3-1 in the West Suburban Silver.
The Knights traveled to Springfield for a tournament at Sacred Heart-Griffin. The hosts routed IC 6-0 on Friday, but the Knights came back and routed Quincy Notre Dame 8-1 on Saturday. IC returned to the area Monday with a 6-3 win at Aurora Central Catholic. Angela Toritto had three goals, Meghan McCann had her first goal of the season and K.C. Morris had two assists. On Wednesday the Knights beat Montini 3-0 with two goals from Toritto and another from Morris. Bailey McCann earned the shutout in IC's fifth win of the season.
IC earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class 1A regional. The Knights will be hosts of the regional, which will take place at Elmhurst College.
The Trojans went 1-1 at their own tournament on Saturday. Timothy beat Westmont 7-0 and lost to F.W. Parker 6-0.
The Dukes swept Proviso West 25-21, 25-18 on Tuesday. Jason Bowels had 14 kills, Joe Dude had 22 assists and Sebastian Guzman dug out 10 balls.

Patrick McKenna scored five goals in the Dukes’ 11-8 win over Neuqua Valley on Monday. Joe Kesslering and Wil Hubert each scored a pair. Nick Salek and Alex Waldherr contributed on goal apiece.

The Dukes posted a 3-1 record at the Downers Grove South Invite over the weekend to take fifth place out of 16 teams. York beat Jacobs 3-2 in the first round, but got swept by Edwardsville 5-0 in the second round. The Dukes claimed wins over Waubonsie Valley and Benet in the consolation draw. Jonathon Elsey and Liam Hagan each had 3-1 records while alternating between singles and doubles.
York improved to 11-5 in dual matches with a 6-1 win over West Suburban Silver opponent Downers Grove North on Monday.
The Trojans picked up a conference dual win over Elmwood Park on Monday. Timothy won 5-2. Riley De Haan picked up the Trojans’ only singles win at No. 2. Tim Huizinga and Caleb Hayes won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles.
The Dukes picked up a pair of wins over West Suburban Conference opponents. First, they beat Lyons Township 12-10 on Saturday. On Tuesday, the Dukes knocked off Oak Park-River Forest 9-7.
For the fifth time this season, York won an invite. The Dukes beat out seven teams at East Aurora, including 2012 state trophy winning teams Fremd and Naperville North. Anna Wirth went 7-0 at fourth singles to win the tournament. Natalie Rizzo and Cori Donofrio won second doubles and Hannah Clark and Hanna Paist took the title at third doubles.
