Glenbard East volleyball goes 2-3 at Mustang Invitational
Rams lose in final of bronze bracket
LOCKPORT — Glenbard East boys volleyball endured an up and down weekend at Downers Grove South's Mustang Invitational.
The Rams lost their two pool play matches to Willowbrook, the second loss to the Warriors this season, and Oak Lawn at Lemont on Friday. Joey Farrell had 17 kills and Seth Quam had 11 in the 17-25, 25-19, 26-24 loss to the Warriors. Cory Soehren racked up 35 assists.
Farrell had 17 more kills in the 19-25, 25-16, 25-21 loss to Oak Lawn. Quam had nine kills. Soehren (15 assists) and Ben Carpio (14 assists) split the setting duties.
In the bronze bracket at Lockport on Saturday the Rams got back on the winning side by sweeping Lemont 25-10, 25-21. Farrell had nine kills and Willi Brewer had seven digs.
East recovered from losing the first game to Hinsdale South to beat the Hornets 24-26, 25-17, 29-27 in a bronze semifinal. Farrell (18 kills) and Quam (10) each had big days hitting and Farrell added three aces. Brewer had 12 digs and Farrell contributed 11 to show an all-around performance.
In the bronze final East lost to a quality Maine South program 25-20, 25-19 despite 12 kills from Farrell and 15 assists from Soehren.
The Rams hold a 13-8 record entering Tuesday's match against DuPage Valley Conference foe West Aurora.
