York baseball loses doubleheader to Silver leader Oak Park

Dukes drop 6-1 and 3-0 scores to defending state champs

OAK PARK — The passing of the torch in the West Suburban Silver took a big step on Saturday.

The defending conference champions, York, dropped two games to the defending Class 4A state champions, Oak Park River Forest, in Oak Park. York managed just six hits and one run in the two losses.

OPRF won Game 1 6-1 after scoring five runs in the first three innings. York ace River Pitlock was tagged for 14 hits in six innings. Pitlock did have the Dukes' lone RBI.

York lost 3-0 in Game 2 while managing just two hits. Louis Alcaraz started on the mound and allowed four hits and one walk, but the York offense was shut down by Huskies' starter Henry Cappel.

With the two wins OPRF improved to 6-0 in the Silver while York dropped to 4-6 in league play. The two teams will play the series finale Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Elmhurst.
