Sentinels dominate Plano, improve to 5-2 in league

WESTMONT — Playing its first game Monday in nearly a week, Westmont High School’s softball team picked up a 7-1 road win at Plano.

It was the Sentinels’ first game since April 16, and they improved to 8-5 on the year and 5-2 in the Interstate Eight Conference.

Kristen Skala earned the pitching win, striking out 15 batters, and Skyler Poel, Maria Prete and Vanessa Possidoni played solid defense behind Skala.

At the plate, Skala went 2-for-4 and Susie Sternard went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Catherine Krolak was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Amanda Anderson finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Westmont also won in its previous game, holding on to beat Sandwich 7-6 in an Interstate Eight road game April 16. The Sentinels swept the two-game series after winning 10-2 in the first game.

Sternard struck out five while earning the pitching win, and she helped her own cause at the plate by going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Prete finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
