LA GRANGE – Sherry Halligan, 54, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the 2003 murder of Dennis Campbell in La Grange, according to a spokesperson for the State's Attorney.

Halligan's sentence was given by Judge John H. Hynes on April 16 at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview.

Halligan was found guilty Feb. 1 of first-degree murder. Evidence showed that she shot Campbell five times in her La Grange home and left him to die, before later turning herself in to police. After being charged with murder, she disappeared in April 2004 and remained at large until she was arrested in Palos Hills on July 16, 2010.

During the trial, Halligan argued that she suffered from battered woman's syndrome, a defense rejected by Hynes.
