Villa Park releases storm recovery plan
VILLA PARK — The Village of Villa Park has issued a recovery plan that is expected to be implemented during the next several weeks as the village is cleaned up.
Villa Park was declared in a state of emergency Thursday after more than nine inches of rain had fallen throughout the village, according to a news release. Most local schools were closed and people were encouraged to stay off the roads.
Sandbags were made available to residents at the village's recycling center at 14 W. Home Ave. and at the salt dome at 729 N. Ardmore Ave.
Two special garbage pickup days have been arranged for Saturday and April 27. On these days, Roy Strom garbage trucks will traveling throughout the village to collect storm-destroyed property. Collection will begin at 7 a.m. on both days and there is no limit to the number or size of collection items.
Keeping with usual collection regulations, no hazardous materials, electronics or tires will be collected.
A discount also will be available for residents who would like to use a roll-off box for flood debris. A 20-yard roll-off box can be rented by Villa Park residents for $340 for one week.
Any questions about the rental opportunity or debris collection can be directed to Roy Strom Company at 708-344-5000.
Thursday night's flooding forced the cancellation of two local events. The Villa Park Lions Club and Willowbrook's Leos Club spaghetti dinner was rescheduled to run from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Willowbrook High School, 1250 S. Ardmore Ave. Proceeds from this event benefit the local organizations.
Willowbrook's Feed My Starving Children breakfast has been rescheduled for 8 a.m. April 25 at the high school. This is a sponsorship breakfast for community members interested in donating to support District 88's Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack event scheduled for May 18.
At this event, Willowbrook and Addison Trail high school students will pack 100,000 meals to be distributed to malnourished children around the world.
Anyone interested in attending this event can RSVP to Willowbrook Principal Dan Krause by calling 630-530-3439 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
