LEMONT – Heavy rain and flooding across the western suburbs have caused multiple road closures in Lemont, according to updated information from the village.

The closures occurred Thursday morning at 135th Street and Archer Avenue, New Avenue west of Interstate 355 and Kotlin Road and Main Street. New Avenue west of 127th Street remains closed and the intersection of 135th Street and Archer Avenue is expected to be out of service until Friday morning.

Jay Nickleski, deputy chief of the Lemont Fire Protection District, said that emergency personnel provided assistance to a car trapped in standing water at about 7 a.m. Thursday at 135th Street and Archer Avenue.

Residents should avoid driving through standing water, Nickleski said.

Although many schools in the region are not in session due to the weather, representatives from Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A and Lemont High School District 210 said they expect schools in Lemont to remain open.
