Lisle reports boat evacuations of select neighborhoods

LISLE – Lisle has declared a state of emergency due to flooding, and police said some residents are being evacuated by boat from select streets, including Lacey and Dumoulin avenues.

Police did not name other specific streets where boat evacuations are underway.

Police did add that residents of the Snow Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are being evacuated by ambulance, though police did not know where they were being taken.

States of emergency have also been declared in Villa Park, Warrenville, Elmhurst, Addison and Lombard, according to DuPage County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Spokesman Dave Hass.

He said boats are being used to evacuate residents in select areas throughout the county, but did not have specifics.

Hass added that the county has given out about 40,000 sandbags to various municipalities so far.

"Right now, apparently we received about 6 inches of rain and were expecting another inch or so," he said at 11:20 a.m. Thursday. "The weather service told us the flood warning is supposed to expire at noon. Our concern is water from the north will be draining down the creeks and rivers to us."

He said all DuPage County government buildings are closed today with the exception of emergency operations such as the sheriff's department.

He advised people to stay at home.

"And if you must drive, don't go into standing water and don't go around barricades," he said.
