Cronin signs emergency declaration for DuPage County

Published: Thursday, April 18, 2013 5:28 p.m. CDT

WHEATON – DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin signed an emergency declaration Thursday following the severe weather and flooding that impacted the area.

The emergency declaration allows the county to forgo normal business practices and to quickly access emergency resources such as generators, pump systems and sandbags, according to a press release. It also allows it to reassign employees to various flood response and recovery operations.

“DuPage County just received up to 6 inches of rain in the past 24 hours," Cronin said in a statement. "The flood waters are a real concern for residents’ homes in addition to some of our roadways that are completely impassible. The cleanup will take some time, which is why I have signed an emergency declaration that provides quicker access to emergency resources to help with the cleanup."
