BERWYN — Last week was supposed to be the final set of games to get Morton softball prepared for conference play.

Instead, the Mustangs only got one game in due to four weather-related cancellations.

Morton did pick up a win, beating Queen of Peace 7-0 to improve to 6-2 on the season. Alyssa Galasso allowed just four hits in a complete game effort. Karina Madera and Isza Gonzalez had three RBIs each at the plate.

“It’s depressing because we didn’t even get on our field all week because of the rain and stuff like that,” said coach Tom Eukovich. “I’ve never seen this kind of rain. We’ve played eight games and we’ve had eight cancellations.”

Eukovich said the indoor practices that have become too frequent make the girls anxious. But if the weather holds this week, the Mustangs will have plenty on the field to worry about.

Morton is scheduled for its first three West Suburban Gold games of the season starting Wednesday. Trips to Addison Trail on Wednesday and Leyden on Friday will ease the Mustangs into a big one on Saturday against Willowbrook.

“Willowbrook is the team to beat (in the Gold),” Eukovich said. “They’re really up this year.”

Of course, any talk about the upcoming games needs to be taken with the concept that the way the spring has gone they could be wiped out. However, Friday’s game at Leyden is safe because the Eagles play their home games at The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont. At least one game will be safe from what Eukovich called the worst spring weather-wise in the nearly 30 years he’s been coaching.
