District 181 opens parent survey on staff collaboration, late start

Published: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 3:30 p.m. CST

HINSDALE — The Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education is considering the addition of eight, two-hour late start days in the 2013-14 school year.

Superintendent Renée Schuster said in a statement that this is one way to “provide more time for staff collaboration, data review and sharing of best practices so that the entire team of educators can provide a more tailored educational experience designed to meet students’ individual needs."

All District 181 parents and community members are being encouraged to review the Frequently Asked Questions document on the subject, available at d181.org.

In an effort to help gauge the level of support for staff collaborative time and the possible implementation of late start, District 181 parents are being invited to complete an online survey now through May 3. The board has approved a tentative calendar with the late start days included, but no final decisions have been made.

The board will vote on the calendar during its May 28 meeting, following discussion and review of the survey’s results.
