Montini softball claimed three conference wins

The Warriors took two of three from the Blazers in a West Suburban Gold series. Willowbrook swept a doubleheader Saturday in Addison beginning with an 18-0 win. The Warriors pounded out 15 hits and nine different players had RBIs. Mike Rothmund was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Dom Battaglia, Cal Moltzan and Kevin Johnson each had two hits. Dave Cericola struck out seven in the five-inning win.
Willowbrook won Game 2 11-2 with three more hits from Rothmund leading the offense. Tyler Vavrek, Brian Johnson, Jeremy Kucik and Moltzan each had two hits. Kevin Johnson got the win on the mound.
AT salvaged the final game of the series with a 7-3 rain-shortened win on Monday in Villa Park. Joe Kurucar was 2-for-2 for the Blazers. Winning pitcher Zack Dowz and Giancarlo Loiotile each had a pair of RBIs.
Naperville Central beat the Rams 14-0 in the DuPage Valley Conference opener on Monday.
The Lady Broncos improved to 11-3 with three straight Suburban Christian Conference wins. On Friday, Montini beat St. Edward 9-3 with a complete game from Lauren Trojnar. Cristina Barrett and Alyssa Sclafani each had three hits while Trojnar, Sara Ross and Isabell Alexander each had two.
Trojnar added three hits and three RBIs in Monday’s rain-shortened 6-3 win over Aurora Central Catholic.
The next day, Montini beat Wheaton Academy 19-3. Sclafani and Emily Lezcano each blasted home runs. Barrett, Sclafani and Lezcano each drove in four RBIs.
The Warriors picked up a big West Suburban Gold win over Hinsdale South on Tuesday. Willowbrook won on penalty kicks after neither team scored in regulation or overtime. On Saturday, the Warriors beat Proviso West 7-0.
The Rams bounced back from a loss to Naperville North on April 11 with a three-game win over West Chicago. East beat the Wildcats 25-17, 23-25, 25-21 on Tuesday. Joey Farrell had 19 kills, Cory Soehren had 31 assists and Willi Brewer had 14 digs in the win.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Taylor Burton won the 200-meter dash Saturday at the Hinsdale Central Red Devilette Invite. Burton also took second in the 400. Jada Stills claimed two wins, shot put and discus. Marisa Klaassen tied for second in the high jump. Danielle Beamon was second in the long jump. Overall, the Warriors tied for fourth in the nine-team meet.
The Rams took fourth out of six teams at the Hinsdale Central Invite on Saturday. East finished behind Hinsdale Central, Naperville Central and Sandburg, all schools that placed in the top 20 at state last year.
Second-place finishers were Jessi Maxey (third singles) and Kaylee Arnold (fourth singles). The top doubles team of Kaely Cantua and Janah Sprenger were also second.
The Warriors won at Oak Park-River Forest 13-2 on Monday and lost to Hinsdale South 9-6 the next day.
The Rams placed seventh out of 10 teams at York’s Ken Skorza Invitational with 113.65 points. Melik Prum (38.9) tied for eighth in the all-around and Joey Brauer (38.6) was right behind in 10th. Tony Caruso placed seventh on rings with a 7.0.
The Blazers took fifth at Ken Skorza Invitational with 118.8 points. Aaron De La Cruz was the top event finisher for the Blazers by taking sixth in the parallel bars with an 8.1. Sujith Thomas tied for ninth on the pommel horse with a 6.9.
The Warriors were 10th out of 14 teams at the Wheaton co-op’s Dave Donaldson Invite on Saturday. Willowbrook totaled 117 points. Bret Golz tied for 10th on floor exercise with an 8.7.
