Dukes earn much-needed Silver series win
York takes two out of three from Glenbard West
ELMHURST — York baseball is getting some momentum and it’s starting with the starting pitching.
The Dukes took two out of three from Glenbard West over the weekend to improved to 4-4 in West Suburban Silver. York received quality starts in each of the three games to hold the Hilltoppers to three runs in the series.
Ace River Pitlock got the series started with a complete-game one-hitter in the Dukes’ 3-0 win in Elmhurst on Saturday. The Butler recruit struck out five and walked just one in the dominant performance. Josh Paparone, Pete Doughty and Nico Sanchez each had two hits in the win.
The Hilltoppers fought back with a 2-1 win in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Louis Alcaraz pitched a complete game and allowed just the two runs while striking out seven, but the Dukes couldn’t solve West’s Dennis Rudolph.
York managed just five hits and scored its lone run on a Jake Dvorak single to score Pitlock in the fourth inning.
The Dukes won the rubber game 11-1 on Tuesday in Glen Ellyn. Anthony Santos struck out seven batters over six innings to pick up the win. Santos has a 2.10 ERA this season.
York scored six runs in the top of the seventh to break open the game. Junior Ryan Saco, Seth Dvorak and Pitlock had multi-hit days.
The next scheduled West Suburban Silver series is against defending state champion Oak Park-River Forest. Saturday’s doubleheader was set to be played in Oak Park, although wet field conditions have put any baseball this weekend in question.
The Huskies hold a 4-0 conference record with a sweep over Glenbard West and one win against Hinsdale Central.
